Rules:

W.I.A.A. and  N.F.H.S. rules will apply with the following exceptions:

5th & 6th Grade:

  • 6 inning games
  • 65-foot bases and 50-foot pitching distance
  • Pitchers limited to 3 innings per game. Ten innings for the tournament.
  • Bats may be no longer than 33 inches long and not more than 2 ¼ inches in diameter.
  • Base runners must hold their base until the pitcher has delivered the pitch. Thereafter, they may steal any base except home.
    • Base runners must stop and are frozen at 3rd base only as a result of being played on by the catcher or any other players, and may advance to home only as a result of a batted ball, walk, hit batsmen (if they are forced) or the defensive team over throws into a dead ball area. No stealing of home plate!
    • Example 1: Runner is on first and the pitcher delivers a pitch to the batter which he does not make contact with. Base runner attempts to steal second, the catcher throws to second and over throws the ball into center field. The base runner may advance to third on his own BUT must stay at third when he reaches it. Or is at risk of being put out.
    • Example 2:  Runner 1 is on second Runner 2 is on first the catcher makes an attempt on runner 1 attempting to steal third and over throws into left field. Ruling: runner 1 must stop at third and runner 2 may advance to second on his own.
    • Example 3:  Runner on second & third batter swings and misses the ball for the third strike, the catcher drops the third strike. Ruling, all runners may advance to any base on an over throw or on the play being made on the batter/base runner. If a runner is occupying first base with less than two outs the batter is out and no runner may advance beyond third.
  • The base runners may advance to any base except HOME on a wild pitch or a passed ball.

7th Grade:

·        7 inning games

  • 75-foot bases and 54-foot pitching distance.
  • Pitchers limited to 4 innings per game. Ten innings for the tournament.
  • Bats may be no longer 33 inches long and no more than 2 ¼ inches in diameter.

8th Grade:

·        7 inning games

  • 90 foot bases and 60feet 6 inches pitching distance.
  • Pitchers limited to 4 innings per game. Ten innings for the tournament.

All divisions:

·         League rosters only. No All-Star (tournament teams) will be permitted.

Coaches must submit a list of the roster of tournament team players along with the player’s age, date of birth, grade during 2007/2008 school year and uniform number by June 26, 2008.

·        No inning shall start after the game has reached 1 hour and 45 minutes in length, unless the score is tied.  When the third out has been completed in the bottom of the previous inning and the 1 hour and 45 minute time limit has not elapsed, the next inning will start.  Intentionally delaying the completion of the third (or any) out by either team in the previous inning will be the judgment of the scorebook keeper and tournament field marshal.   If there is a tie score when the time limit is reached, there will be one extra inning played.  If the score is still tied after the one extra inning is played the game will end in a tie. There will be no time limit enforced in the championship game.

·        WIAA 10 run rule will apply to all leagues after 5 innings (4 ½ if the home team is ahead by 10 runs).  After 5 innings, the 10 run sudden death rule applies. This rule will not be enforced for the championship game.

·        There will be no D.H.. However, an A.H. (additional hitter) is an option that can be used by teams. A team may insert an additional hitter into its line-up and the batting order must remain constant; however, any 9 of the 10 players can take a defensive position throughout the game. It is not mandatory that a team use an A.H., but failure to declare such a hitter prior to the game precludes the use of an A.H. in that game.

·        Teams must have their lineup in and ready to play ½ hour before their scheduled game time.  Give your lineup to the official score keeper or field marshal.

·      Players can wear metal spikes.

·     Tie Breakers will be determined as follows (in priority order)

1st   Head-to-Head competition

2nd  Largest run differential (runs scored – runs allowed)

3rd   Least runs allowed per inning played

4th   Most runs Scored per inning played

5th   Coin flip

·     Wild Card Team will be determined as follows (in priority order):

1st        Record (Wins vs. Losses)

2nd        Head-to-Head competition

3rd        Largest run differential (runs scored – runs allowed)

4th       Least runs allowed per inning played

5th       Most runs Scored per inning played
